About

Symbols and artworks have always been more than just displays of skill or beauty. They can reveal the patterns we use to make sense of things. I’ve always been drawn to those moments when a once familiar thing comes to life through an unfamiliar lens. There’s a particular beauty in discovering those connections — even when they unsettle what we already feel we know. Through them, the seemingly ordinary things in life can become surprisingly new again, changing how we understand the worlds we live among.

Graf is an artist working with photography, film, sound, and installation. Over decades, he has built a body of work borrowing symbols and visual languages from our everyday lives. Together, they look into different ways of re-seeing the common, overlook images we walk among.

For Graf, these scenes of our lives are never just flat or literal things. They carry buried histories and frictions that help shape the ways we see and relate to the worlds around us. For him, these elements matter deeply — they hold parts and pieces of the world’s ingrained memories. And those memories ask something more of us. They call for a different kind of attention.

The images here carry that experience. The grammar reflects the thinking behind them.
